WHAT'S OCCURRING?

Whatever is happening in other parts of the UK here the brisk cold is relieved by beautiful clear skies and bright sunshine. Long may it continue.

I have finished reading Lumen by Ben Pastor, and shortly will be writing a review for Euro Crime.

The kind Mrs Crime Scraps bought me a Kindle. The fact I can enlarge the font on this device will make it a vital reading aid as there are several books that I have been unable to read recently because of the small fonts. I might even delve into those classics that I never read at school because I was on the science side! Font enlargement and the fact you can carry a whole library around with you are the big advantages. The ease with which you can buy books could be a financial disadvantage.

But there are so many books on my TBR shelf it will have to be print for a while longer, and I am now reading Poisonville by Massimo Carlotto and Marco Videta. The title is of course almost certainly a tribute to Red Harvest by Dashiell
Hammett.

My reviews of Massimo Carlotto's novels; The Colombian Mule, The Master of Knots, Death's Dark Abyss, The Fugitive.
Also a short post about Massimo Carlotto.

Later this week I will be posting a Winter Quiz with prizes!

I am sure you´ll enjoy your Kindle very much.

And (I think) I am looking forward to your winter quiz.

Thanks Dorte. I am sure you will do better at my quiz than I am doing on your Bait in a Box. I guessed Banks for Bosch last time, and there was a Dragon on the box!

Norman - I'm so happy for you that you got that Kindle. I hope you'll thoroughly, thoroughly enjoy it. And I'm sure your quiz will be both fiendish and fun!

Thanks Margot.
Re: the Kindle, the ability to search books, make notes and highlight passages is going to be very useful.
I have spent some time adjusting the quiz so that some of the questions are very straightforward and therefore not too difficult. Some might be a little fiendish, but easy once you have worked out what is needed. ;o)

Congrats on the Kindle. It sounds like the font adjustment will help with reading.

Hopefully, you can find the books you want to read.

I agree that there could be real damage to your budget.

Although I hold on to my Luddite-love of paper books, I seriously worry about overspending with a Kindle, kind of like living above a bakery.

Good luck with it, and look forward to your reviews, and, perhaps the daunting quiz.

I am going to have to be very careful to keep myself in check and rely on my TBR pile. So far I have only spent about £5.00 on Kindle books as some are free. I must keep my finger off the button.

The quiz hopefully will be an amusing distraction, and may even test my very intelligent readers. I hope I haven't made it too easy.

What is tempting to me is that Book Depository. With a few typing strokes, I could spend a small fortune every month.

It's like being on a diet to resist.

Your list is good.

The global reading challenge and all of the excellent blogs that have picked up on it and written about international crime fiction have been terrific.

I have read books from 17 countries this year; many books I wouldn't have ventured to read otherwise.
