TRIPLE PLAY

I sometimes feel I am too critical of writers, publishers and editors, but only in my milder moments.
I do have certain standards, just minor things like sanity.
I remember pointing out last year that in one book the author, and presumably the editor, thought that 300 grams equalled 3 kilograms.
Now apparently one cover equals three different books.
Thanks to the Rap Sheet for the original double play ball here.

Good catch, Norman! I believe that Karen of Euro Crime already caught two of these earlier in the year (or if not Karen, someone else on a blog I read). But three times - that is amazing.

We were in a second hand bookstore at Killerton House and I spotted the cover as I have Bleeding Heart Square on the TBR pile. I had seen the Rap Sheet post about this cover and Karen note some others, but three times and with well known authors it is ridiculous.
Last Rights is set in October 1940 during the Blitz so as I have no resistance it was another book for the mountain!

Lucky the photographer who snapped that image, three nice cheques.
Works best on the Taylor book I think.

Unless the photo came from a stock agency, in which case he or she might have received a flat fee for the image regardless of number of uses. Not that any company would try to take advantage of workers or anything.

I have tagged you for a meme that gives you the delightful assignment of listing authors whose work you have read for the first time in 2008, then tagging fellow bloggers to do the same. Here’s my list.

Thanks.

Peter R, It is of course possible that the publisher(s)/designer have found the cheapest route possible but if a good reputable publisher then more than likely they will use a good library.
The library I have work with and who are forever asking for images that fit crime / thriller book cover scenarios would send me three individual cheques, assuming from separate publishers.

That would good news, that photographers get paid when their images are used (and, I hope, for selling the images in the first place) rather than just giving up all rights for a one-time fee. Thanks.
