THE GOOD AND THE WICKED

We have been away  for a few days looking after our granddaughter in Swindon. Luckily there is a lot of beautiful countryside around the city if you can negotiate the plethora of Swindon's roundabouts and the motorway.
We stayed in the beautiful village of Lacock and travelled into Swindon to do our pleasant duty. Then we took little Miss Crime Scraps to Avebury and perhaps a young geologist was born as she was fascinated by the stones in the shops.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and  Cranford were filmed in Lacock.

On my return I had to deal with some matters concerning the rock group the Honeytones. I have previously posted  here about these young people with learning difficulties who get  so much pleasure from their music and hopefully at last they will be able resume practice tomorrow.

I have started reading Blood of the Wicked by Leighton Gage, which is set in Brazil. This is top quality crime fiction with a stark realism and a writing style that puts you right there in the action. I had to check I had all my fingers after one gripping episode. More on this in a few days.

'The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.'

My most recent acquisition in my DVD boxed set addiction (as they are piling up unwatched) is Lark Rise to Candleford. And the other week we watched the first episode. Which had distinct similarities, in terms of venue, with Cranford and various Jane Austens.
Does the Crime Scraps Knowledgebase know if LRTC was filmed in the same place?

Glad to hear of the budding scientist in the Crime Scraps family. Maybe she'll strike oil one day.

I shall be putting Dante's Numbers by David Hewson in the post on Monday, by the way - as it is Sunday tomorrow and so no post collections. Glad to be able to return the "Ice Princess" favour.

LRTC was filmed near Bristol and Gloucestershire according to the BBC site.

AndLacock village nearby was chosen to be Meryton in Pride and Prejudice. This was only one of many TV and film appearances for Lacock, which has also starred in Moll Flanders, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) and Harry Potter, amongst many others. [from the BBC]

I can highly recommend Lacock Pottery B&B and The Sign of the Angel as a restaurant. I am restarting my diet today.;o)

Malcolm has been telling Eleanor, his eldest daughter, that he is starting a diet tomorrow ever since she was seven years old. She is 25 next week ;-)

Thanks for the geography lesson. Candleford does look extremely like this "generic BBC TV history village", for sure!

Happy Birthday to Eleanor, that makes her 5 months younger than my son Ben, the bald one you met outside Crime Fest.
