ALLEE

On a lighter note, I thought the fantastic cover of A Gentle Axe, reviewed so well over at It's a Crime (or a mystery....) was so evocative of Russia and St Petersburg that I would post a slightly similar photograph of mine and ask readers to identify where it was taken.

No prize I am afraid, but just the satisfaction of getting it right.

St Petersburg, and ............?

ALLEE - A very formal design of planting trees lining both sides of a path or drive.

Thanks for the comment!
I'm not up to answering the question though. I haven't a clue!

That house doesn't belong to the Rothschilds, does it?

No, but I thought Peter might be the one to know.

LOL - you thought Peter might be the one to know! Not so open competition then, is it?

How long before the end of the "consideration summit" dear Norm?

Do state a deadline please! I want to find out what I don't know. I'm like that, don't you know... (And so bloody competitive..)

Come on. Come on. My impatience prevails!

OK, just guessing, it's Sanssouci, "the largest World Heritage Site in Germany", Potsdam, just outside Berlin.

I think I'm wrong as that is on the rise and your pic is on the flat... But I just had to guess...

I appreciate your efforts Rhian, and I will reveal the answer Thursday.
The Sanssouci was commissioned in 1744, and the original of this building was built in 1767. So you are very close in years, but a bit out in location.

I just took another look. I do believe that building is a good deal closer to home than Sansouci or anything the Rothschilds owned!

I further believe that I stroll past that building several times each week!
